Meet Kevin Stockstill
Kevin Stockstill
Known for his client-centered approach, Kevin Stockstill takes the time to understand each case’s unique details and craft a tailored defense strategy. He combines thorough preparation with a strategic courtroom presence, aiming for the best possible outcomes. Richard L. Houghton, III, Attorney at Law
Richard L. Houghton, III is the son of a career U.S. Marine and prior to law school served in the U.S. Navy as a Government Contracting Officer, managing a $5 million annual pharmaceutical budget. He obtained his undergraduate degree, a B.A. in History, summa cum laude, in 2001 from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where he graduated first in his class in the College of Arts and Sciences, and a J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law in 2005. In law school, he was awarded for Outstanding Achievement in Criminal Law and Comparative Law and was certified in both Civil Law and Common Law traditions. Following graduation, he joined a commercial litigation firm in New Orleans, and specialized in contract litigation, bankruptcy, and white-collar criminal defense. He then moved his practice to Ohio in 2007, serving as Senior Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Champaign County, Ohio. In 2012, Mr. Houghton returned to Louisiana, joining the Gachassin Law Firm in 2013 where he defended medical malpractice cases, then transitioning to the 15th Judicial District Public Defenders Office in 2022, and more recently the 16th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, prosecuting adult felony crimes. Mr. Houghton now practices vigorous criminal defense alongside Mr. Stockstill at the Stockstill Defense Firm.

Amber Talhelm, Chief Litigation Paralegal/ Director of Administration
Amber Talhelm is a proud lifelong resident of Acadia Parish in South Louisiana. She graduated from Rayne High School in 2010 in the top 5% of her class. Amber has practiced in the field of criminal law for fourteen years. Her career started at the Lafayette Parish District Attorney’s Office in 2010. She has practiced in multiple areas of law including bankruptcy, personal injury and family law. She then decided to pursue a career primarily in criminal defense, which makes up the majority of her legal experience. Currently, Amber is the lead litigation paralegal at Stockstill Defense Firm. Amber believes in justice and the presumption of innocence for every client.
Amber is the proud mother of Ana-Claire and Alexander. In her free time, she enjoys being a permanent jewelry designer and spending time with her family and friends.

Leah M. Vice, Paralegal to Richard L. Houghton, III
Leah Vice graduated from Comeaux High School in 2001. After graduating she started a career in retail. In 2011 Leah moved to Houston, Texas and lived there for thirteen years to devote time to her family. In 2022, Leah returned to Maurice, Louisiana, and having shifted her focus to a career in criminal defense, she began working for the 15th Judicial District Indigent Defender’s Office. In 2024, Leah joined the Stockstill Defense Firm as paralegal to Attorney Richard L. Houghton, III. Leah believes that every client deserves justice and the right to a strong and vigorous defense. She is proud to work alongside Mr. Houghton in helping him to vigorously defend all of our clients.
Leah is the proud mother to Blaine and Brayden. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her children and family.

Heather Richard, Legal Assistant/Marketing Assistant
Heather Richard a lifelong resident of Acadia Parish in South Louisiana. She graduated with Honors from Rayne High School in 2006. She earned her Paralegal Certificate from South Louisiana Community College in 2021. Heather has practiced in the legal field for six years and has experience in the fields of bankruptcy, family, civil and criminal law. Currently, Heather is the legal and marketing assistant at Stockstill Defense Firm. Heather enjoys interacting with the firm’s clients and always greeting them with a smiling face and positive attitude.
Heather is the proud mother of Kailyn and Cruz. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, coaching softball, going to the gym and spending time with her family and friends.
